"Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalm 37:4
Do you delight in the LORD? Do you enjoy your relationship with God? Or, is your relationship with God more about obedience and following rules? It occurs to me that a large part of my Christian walk has been focused on trying to be obedient and follow the rules to be "good enough" to be in a relationship with God. I can honestly say that I have not always had joy in my relationship with Jesus.
Jesus wants us to worship him and offer praise to him with joyful hearts not out of obligation. Jesus wants us to love him and enjoy our time with him. I have had moments of joy but I have had many more moments of regret and repentance. I have spent so much time trying to be right in God's eyes that I had forgotten that I am righteous because of what Jesus did for me.
I am learning to enjoy my time with Jesus. I am learning how to rejoice in him in all circumstances and give him the praise and honor that is due him—not only from obligation but because I delight in him. I rejoice in God my Savior. I love Jesus more than anything else. I worship God with my whole heart and my whole being—everything I am.
I encourage you to consider this in your life—do you delight in the LORD?
Blessings
Tim
