Jonathon

Thanks for this reminder. I hope that my life can honor God in each of these areas.

Ozulumba Chinedu. P

I read your post today and found it helpful because i desire the best of God in my life and the only way to access this from God is to reverence and honor him the best way i can. His word in 1 sam 2 v 29-30, he will honor only those who honor him and those that despise him shall be lightly esteemed.

Rose

Thank you.

AMEELA

I don't believe that my life has been honoring God, I have messed so many times. I want my life to honour him I am going through a situation re school and getting a cosigner and i sent out a prayer request and a young wrot . If you honor God , God will honor and I came to this site.

Pray for me as I learn to honor my God

Tim

Ameela,

I will be praying for you. I firmly believe that if you really desire to honor God, He will teach you and show you how by the power of the Holy Spirit. Spend some time in your Bible and prayer every day. God knows how to speak to you and teach you His will. I will make it a point to pray for you.

Thank you for this article! Its gives very clear guidelines to honor God more

Thanks...simple and effective word of GOD in due season. I often take credit for my hard work but like you said these things are possible through GOD and GOD alone. May he have all of the glory.

Wow! My pastor just preached a message on last Sunday entitled " Use it or lose it" it was a kingdom building message, that relates to your last point "We don't go and make disciples". So I must need a reminder already.

Thanks again.

Two more ways we can fail to honor God or conversely, to honor Him, are:

1. To revere Him. We live in a culture where we have, I believe, become overly familiar with God. Yes, He is our Abba ('Daddy') Father, but he is also the eternal creator and sustainer of the universe. He is also utterly perfect. We need to hold Him in awe as True God who dwells (exits) in unapproachable Light. I believe that we need to return to honoring God by being reverent when we approach Him. We find Jesus, who was Himself God incarnate, an equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit, yet in His incarnate body we find Him on His knees praying (communicating) with the Father. Should we be doing less. Maybe a return to the old fashioned kneeler boards in our churches would bring us a much needed dose of reverence and humility before our God.

2. Faith. "Without faith, it is impossible to please God." As western Christians we live this strange dichotomy whereby we think it normal and perfectly acceptable to fully trust God for our salvation from sin and assurance that when we leave this life He will bring us into His presence. A belief that viewed from the secular perspective appears to be totally impractical. Yet, we western Christians think that to step out in faith and act upon our stated beliefs in this life is impractical. If we only began to live with the same abandon that Christ taught and lived and which marked the early church, we would shake our world. But such action is branded as being 'impractical' by bible believing Christians. Does such lack of faith to live and act with utter abandon in this life, but faith for the life beyond, make any sense? It certainly does not honor God! Peter at least had the seed of faith to get out of the boat and begin the totally impractical journey of walking on the water toward Jesus. And when his faith failed and be began to sink, Jesus did what He will always do for those who exercise even that tiny mustard seed size faith, He reached out His hand to uphold Peter's wavering faith. I believe that to truly honor God we must be willing to risk all for Him right now in this life on a daily basis.

Thanks for sharing John. I agree completely with your comments. I love your passion for God. If more of us were passionate about our relationship with God we would honor God so much more than we do.

Charles Geisler

Thanks for these ideas. I looked up "How to honor God" and your site came up. My name is Timothy also and I just remembered that my mother told me that Timothy means "to Honor God".

I think the one that hit me was, taking credit for things in our life. If we are honoring him we will give praise and acknowledge his power in our successes and failures. If we are doing work in his name, the rejection is not ours. I really like your site, it is uplifting. Blessings!

I recieve the grace to live in obedience to God's word.

Tim

It may not be that you need a reminder so soon but this is just confirmation. The Bible says everything should be established by two or more witnesses.

2 Corinthians 13:1 (NIV) "This will be my third visit to you. “Every matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”

God bless.

Benedicta Omokhodion

I know there is more to life than what is seen.I really want to know God and fulfill what He created me for.I know there are price to pay but I just feel so weak.Still deep within me, I know God is calling me.I know...

Tim

Benedicta,

Hang in there. While you are praying and seeking God's purpose for your life on the whole...make sure you don't neglect the little things God wants you to do on a daily basis. Things like praying for others, smiling and sharing a friendly word with with someone who is having a bad day, giving God the glory for what he does in your life everyday, and many more. Sometimes God has important things for us to do but we never know how important they might be. For example, a kind word and a friendly smile could open the door for a conversation with someone who is feeling worthless and hopeless and considering suicide. Hopefully this is an example that will never be true in your life. My point is, we may never know how God may choose to use us in very important ways. Even though it may seem small and insignificant to us it might be life-changing to the other person. Serving God is a way of life, it is a life-ling journey and all along the way God gives us opportunities to do His will--some big opportunities, but perhaps many more small opportunities. Be faithful in living the Christian life and being God's hands and feet. Allow the Holy Spirit to work through you--"the Fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23).

I will be praying for you and your quest for more of God.

Richard

I wanted to say thank you, your post has really made me look at honoring god in a new way. I know this is going to help me be a better child of god. May the lord bless you and you family for the work you are doing.

Tim

Charles,

That one hit me hard also. I know I have failed to honor God in this, many times. Being aware of the problem help a lot but it still takes effort.

Thanks for sharing your comments.

Tim

Thanks for sharing. I pray we will all receive God's grace to help us live a life of obedience. God bless you.

Tim's Recommended Books, Videos, and Study Materials

A Simplified Harmony of the Gospels is a great resource for studying the Gospels. I use it frequently and highly recommend it. Another plus is it is easy on the budget. Well worth the price.

The Thompson Chain Reference is an excellent study tool. I bought my first copy of it in 1984. It was my first leather bound, "preaching Bible." The Chain reference is such a wonderful study tool. I highly recommend it." -Tim

This guide to prayer is a little formal for some but I have found it to be a great resource for my personal devotions. I need something to help me keep my mind focused and guide works well for me. Suggested Bible readings in this guide follow the Common Lectionary which will allow you to study all parts of the Bible. I highly recommend this to any serious student of the Bible.

A Celebration of Discipline is a wonderful study through the many practices of Christian, spiritual devotion. Richard Foster really opens the door to a more complete understanding of these disciplines. Even though you may never participate in some of these it is great to learn about them. I highly recommend this book.

The Visual Bible - Matthew is incredible. The first time I saw it I watched all 4 hours straight through in one sitting. It made quite an impression on me. I recommend it.

Something to Sing About is my favorite of the evangelistic movies presented by Billy Graham. It is a good family movie.

The Road to Redemption is a great story and a fun family movie. This is one of the evangelistic movies presented by Billy Graham.

Facing the Giants and Flywheel are two of my favorite movies. They both have great stories which present the Gospel of Jesus in the lives of two very different men, but, in both, God is honored. You need to watch these if you haven't already seen them.

Praying God's Word by Beth Moore is an incredible book. I frequently use it in my personal prayer life and have for years.
