This is a guest post written by the 14 year old daughter of some friends from church. Her name is Morgan and she is a home-schooled student. I know you will be blessed and challenged by this like I was.
How to honor GOD as a young adult. This is the statement that has puzzled me and encouraged me. As I take time to dig deeper into GOD’s Word and even into myself, the Lord has revealed to me a four step guide to honoring HIM. The four steps spell out L-O-V-E.
We start with “L” which stands for Live. If we don’t start with living for GOD how are we supposed to be trusted in the bigger things? As Christians we are called to be “outcasts”. In John 15:19 we read that “If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.” What this means is that it’s okay to be different and although it’s not always easy it’s what is right and we will be blessed in the long run. When times are tough I have to remind myself that “if I do fit in there’s a problem”.
The second step is “O” for obedience. Now that we are living for GOD we have to be obedient to HIS will. Within our life GOD calls us to do many things and if we don’t take time to listen then we are not honoring HIM. We can learn a good lesson of what happens when we don’t obey GOD from the story of Adam and Eve. We read in Genesis 2 that GOD put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Two perfect people in one perfect garden. The only thing GOD told them not to do is to not eat from the tree of good and evil. But could they listen to the one rule GOD gave them. No! Their sinful flesh said otherwise. Not only did the simple act of disobedience effect them but it effected all of humanity. So when we think it’s not that big of a deal just remember that GOD has a reason and purpose for everything.
So now that we are living for GOD, and being obedient to HIS will, we look to “V” for Value. If we don’t value GOD then we won’t have a drive for anything else. It is so easy to see GOD as a “big guy in the sky” but the fact is … HE is so much more and until we get that out of our head we will not be able to see HIS real wonder and truth. We serve the same GOD who created the whole world in 7 days, the same GOD that parted the sea so the Israelites could walk on dry ground, the same GOD who heals, and the ONE who sent HIS one and only SON to save us from our sinful flesh.
Now last but not least is “E” for Evangelize. Evangelism is so important. We read in Matthew 28:19-20 that we are supposed to “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” One of the last things Jesus tells us to do before leaving this earth is to “Make disciples of all the nations”. Now take a minute to think, how could we honor GOD more than to bring growth to his kingdom? I remember hearing at a revival a few years ago that if all Christians helped lead one person a year to CHRIST then within thirty years time everyone would be saved. WOW!!! What a great impact. I think it’s about time we take a stand in our communities. Then what happens? When we impact our towns, then we are impacting our state, then our nation, and we have a changed world. It’s easy to want to do big things but sometimes the hardest things are small things. So things that may seem small to us may change the world!!!
Through reading this I pray you will be able to see some of the ways we can honor God. So if you are willing to
L-LIVE FOR GOD
O-BE OBEDIENT TO GOD’S WILL
V-VALUE GOD
E-EVANGELIZE
Not only will we be able to honor GOD, but lives will be impacted all around us.
God bless you real good!
Tim
